The 19th International Conference on Critical Quality Control (ADQI XIX), hosted by the Acute Disease Quality Initiative (ADQI) and organized by the Chinese Medical Association Critical Care Medicine Branch and Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, was successfully held in Donghu Hotel, Wuhan, during April 2nd–4th, 2017.

The topic of the conference was pragmatic clinical trials of acute kidney injury (AKI) in intensive care units. Eighteen experts were grouped into four, discussed in depth the prevention and treatment of AKI as well as the effects of replacement therapy and biomarkers in AKI separately, and later made presentations together. A consensus on AKI was reached at the conference, which has been published as ADQI Expert Consensus in the Journal of Critical Care. The manuscripts from other 4 groups will be published in this Journal of Translational Critical Care Medicine.
It was the first time that a large-scale ADQI conference was held in China. It covered important content, had a powerful lineup, and had great international impact, aiming to promote management of AKI in developing countries to reach international standards. The conference helped promote the academic status and influence of Chinese critical care medicine around the world.
